Why does Bonita USD believe in the Common Core Standards?

Students mastering these math and English standards will be prepared for higher education and the demands of the 21st century careers.

The standards require students to consistently think critically at a deeper level than ever before.

Historically, students have learned and been assessed on skills in isolation; The standards require students to put multiple skills together to solve problems and complete work.

California Common Core Assessment

On June 9th, 2011 California joined the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. Smarter Balanced assessments will include:

Comprehensive assessments in grades 3rd through 8th grade and 11th grade
Assessments will be computer adaptive for ELA and Math
Items will include multiple choice, short constructed response and performance tasks

By clicking on the links below, you will be able to visit the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium website where you will be able to view and practice sample questions in both English and Math. These questions reflect the type of questions as well as the rigor of the questions, students will see when they take the Smarter Balanced Assessments in the spring of 2015.

Smarter Balanced Assessment - Math Sample Problems

By clicking on the pictures of the swimmers, you will be directed to the Smarter Balanced Assessment website where you will be able to view math problems that your student will be tested on in the spring of 2015. Once you are in the website, you can view different types of problems by clicking the next button located on the top right hand side of the page. By clicking on the "About this item" tab at the top of the page, you will be able to see more information about the math problem such as the grade level in which you would find this type of problem in.

Smarter Balanced Assessment - English Sample Problems

By clicking on the story of Grandma Ruth, you will be directed to the Smarter Balanced Assessment website where you will be able to view English questions that your student will be tested on in the spring of 2015. Once you are in the website, you can view different types of questions by clicking the next button located on the top right hand side of the page. By clicking on the "About this item" tab at the top of the page, you will be able to see more information about the English question such as the grade level in which you would find this type of reading passage in.
